Alan Fletcher / Mind Over Matter

Review and link to show here.

Read This.

Seriously - you will need to understand it. Your culture and your place within it determine what sort of designer you will be, it's not all pretty pictures, you need to use your head too. Link here.

John Lewis Branding

Article from September Industry via their facebook page ( you really should join SI's page ) - looking at the modern-retro styling for one of their fashion labels - I'll be talking a bit about this sort of approach in the new year.

Hand Drawn type and branding

Interesting article here about the trend away from hard graphics.

Wim Crouwel

Very Good little film here.

Aardvark Open Studio

Very good opportunity here - I am thinking of asking Aardvark to come in to talk to you anyway - but you must go and see them in their studio in the Old Town if you get the chance.

Aardvark Open Studio

Several printmongers, vintage textile artists, jam makers, chutney engineers, quilt stitchers & one bespoke lampshade designer. Plus... Home made cakes. It can only mean one thing...

Aardvark open studios 3-4th & 9-10th Sept, 11am-6pm.

I really love this idea, making a  book or fanzine that is it's own envelope.

College Printing

Passed on - here s some information about printing nexterm.

The College is fortunate to have state of the art Multi Functional Devices (MFDs) at the Plaza and Ore sites that provide printing, copying and scanning for staff and students.

Over the Summer Canon has worked with David Bryant, the Reprographics Technician to upgrade the system to improve the service delivered.

From September 2011 students will have an initial £5 print credit that will be increased to £10 once they have had a LRC/Print Induction. They will then need to pay for additional credit.

As David works alone and across sites all staff are asked to support the continued efficient delivery of the Reprographics Service by Reporting paper jams and problems promptly, contact details are by each MFD
Use the MFDs located on each floor at Plaza and Ore and not those in the LRC that are for students studying in the LRCs. Make sure any bulk printing is given to David in the Reprographics Room including work books, as asking students to print these off will reduce their print credit. Encourage student use of the Wikis rather than printing off documents so that they use their print credit wisely.

Good design blog

Nice work here - and all based on a simple Tumblr template

Talent House

Interesting site full of design opportunities here - aimed at graduates and professionals - but you need to start looking seriously at what you do after college - and start aiming as high as possible.

Cowarth Park job

Very nice, well judged typographic work here from 'And Smith'

5 decades of the Observer

Nice article here about the history of The Observer magazine over the last 50 years.

Good work

I love this packaging for Liberty, it's relaxed, understated and unexpected.

Ugmonk

Good business - terrible name. have a really careful look at this site and follow his philosophy - you will be looking at something similar next year
I've been talking to Karen and a couple of other tutors about how to tackle teaching design for print, before that - here is a very good selection of clear - coherent work for a single client that is beautifully executed, has high stylistic standards - and a personality.

Good, simple concept

Nice work here.

Pop Up Shop

have a careful look at this - it will come in very handy next year...

failure is the new success...

Wise words, here.

Fanzine and other suff

I really like this blog layout - it's just a simple Tumblr template - but works very well - I'm also flagging up this little film that might help you with the summer brief - and also the content, video posted August 2nd.... now, I'm not suggesting that you contribute ( unless you want to ) but think about what they are trying to do - it's not too far from a project for next year...
